The number of photographs that people take on their digital cameras obviously varies from person to person. Those who take sport, animal photography and perhaps portraits have to ensure they get the images they need in situations that won’t necessarily give them a second chance if they miss the shot. They will use the burst settings on their cameras, so their picture count will be high – perhaps 20,000 per year or more.
On the other hand, I rarely use burst shooting as my style of photography does not call for it. My subjects are usually not moving around too much and I can take my time.
I have been looking at some statistics based on my photographs last year, as I do each year, and these are some of the results.
- Total number of different photo shoots: 96
- Total number of RAW photographs taken: 5454
- Number of finished images from the total number of photos: 437
- Percentage of finished images against the total number of photos taken: 8.01% (This is slightly more than 2023 which was an average of 6.78%)
- The number of prints I make from finished images will not be 100% as some completed photographs are for online use only.
My most used camera in 2024 was the Fujifilm X-T5.

The most used lenses were the XF16-50 F/2.4-4.8 R LM WR, the now departed XF16-80 F/4.0 OIS WR and the 23mm lens attached to the X100F.

I also looked at what focal length had the most use last year and it was in the range of 50mm to 56mm which was used on 15% of all my shots. 40mm and 35mm were also used a lot too.
So there we have it, a pointless exercise, but I found it quite interesting to get an idea of how I work.
