This picture was taken on a chilly day in September in the Lake District. This is Watendlath tarn which lies in the hills above Derwent water. I used a 2 stop neutral density filter to help bring out the sky, and the camera was on a tripod. It was taken with an Olympus E-30.

MMX: Slow Water
Everyone at some point who has a tripod and some neutral density filters tries a long exposure on water. This is one I took whilst in the Lake District with an Olympus E-30. The exposure was at f/11 for 1/5 second. Whilst not having the sometimes over-used 'smoke' look about it I think that it … Continue reading MMX: Slow Water
Kalahari Molopo K-41 Camera Bag
Okay I admit it. I love camera bags. Perhaps it's something akin to ladies and their handbags, I don't know. However I do try and justify my bag buying urges by throwing some logic at the requirement. I have been trying to find a bag that will enable me to carry one camera comfortably but … Continue reading Kalahari Molopo K-41 Camera Bag
BlackRapid RS-4 camera strap
I won a £50 voucher from Warehouse Express and was looking for something to buy at around that price. A friend uses a BlackRapid strap and swears by it, so I thought I would use the voucher to get one. It seems well made, you get a string bag to keep it in when not … Continue reading BlackRapid RS-4 camera strap
MMX: Blea Tarn
This is an image taken at Blea Tarn in the lake District. There was a slight breeze that day which prevented the tarn from actually being totally still. That being said, I still the the reflection works well. The water levels in the Lake District in 2010 were down considerably and rocks that were normally … Continue reading MMX: Blea Tarn
MMX: Derwent Jetty
Taken in September, this image of the jetty on Derwent Water must have been taken a million times before by a million people. That however in itself is not a reason to ignore the chance of a picture when it comes. There is always something new in a picture, no matter how many times that … Continue reading MMX: Derwent Jetty
Back from the north-east
I managed to get one or two decent photographs from the trip to Northumbria, despite being battered by the 70mph gale force winds.Saturday turned out a little drizzly, but cleared up by the afternoon. Sunday dawned with the news that gale force winds were heading north, the remnants of hurricane Katia. the shoot for Sunday … Continue reading Back from the north-east
Off to the North-East.
On Friday we have a club meet in Northumbria. We're staying in (what looks like) a really nice self-catering wing of a manor house and we have three and a half days of (hopefully) good photography ahead of us.As ever in the UK the weather is a concern, but I am reliable concerned by one … Continue reading Off to the North-East.
MMX: Geometry
Continuing with the collection of images taken in 2010 and included in my MMX book, this was taken in the Lake District, during a three day long club shoot. I just loved the total abstract look of the edge of this building with the diagonal and vertical lines, the circular window and the textures on … Continue reading MMX: Geometry
